Anne Ipsen – A Danish-American writer and retired U of M professor. Most recently published, RUNNING BEFORE THE PRAIRIE WIND a sequel to
KAREN FROM THE MILL. The
speaker will use the CBS-60 Minutes segment (June 2008) on Danish happiness and contrast this image with the inhibiting Jante Law. Anne will discuss a land
called Denmark where: “Few have too much and fewer too little.”
Cynthia
McKeen – St. Paul resident
artist working in,
watercolor, acrylics,
ink photography and
labyrinth design.
She has studied at Grinnell,
Drake and Charlottenborg, DK. Cynthia admires
the Danes and their efforts
in the process
of peacemaking and their
blend of
science, math and design.
She and her husband lived in Japan for several years
in the early 90’s. After her
return to St. Paul she was invited to design a labyrinth on the theme of Global
Harmony,
marking the relationship of
the two sister cities of St. Paul and Nagasaki.
John Sterner
–
Graduated from SMSU, Marshall, MN. John was an All-NSIC wrestler at 190 lbs. in
1989. Currently part of the academic art faculty at SMSU and staff member of
TRIO, a student supportive service. John is a part of the American Indian Lakota
Tribe and Rosebud Reservation
Don
Swanjord – and his wife Texas live
and operate a Bed and Breakfast on Balaton, MN. They are both on staff at the
Worthington Charter School. Don has spent considerable time living in the Middle
East and has a wide understanding of the roots of our Christian faith as well as
the Islamic faith.
Dan
Mikel –
retired teacher and member of Citizens Commission for the Preservation of an
Impartial Judiciary, Minnesotans for Impartial Courts and the Coalition of
Impartial Justice. A flurry of U.S. Supreme Court decisions in recent years has
set the stage for changing the way judicial elections are conducted. What about
these changes, what’s behind the controversy, are there options for
Minnesota?
Pastor Katharine
Yarnell
– B. S., U of Western Onatrio; M. Div., Wartburg; D. Min. Lutheran School of
Theology, Chicago. Director of Campaign Giving at Grand View University,
Katharine grew up in Canada. She will tell us of Danes in Canada.
Jerry
Bly –
has been involved in crop production for almost thirty years. He is currently a
Senior Business Representative with BASF Corp. in the Agricultural Products
North American Group. He will discuss how we feed a hungry world and the credit
due to Norman Borlaug.
Dr.
Yvonne Datta –
Physician
and Associate Professor of Medicine at the U of M. She is involved in clinical
care, research and teaching in the field of hematology and oncology. Dr. Datta
has been active in healthcare reform at the State and Federal level through the
ecumenical group ISAIAH.
Saturday
Evening:
Glenn Henriksen – Versatile pianist, organist and accompanist for many vocalist and instrumentalist
including the 80-member Many Voices Choir, Member of variety Rock Band
Galaxy. He has developed his own unique musical style resulting in
one-of-a-kind improvised arrangements. He resides in the Spirit Lake, IA area. He will also
accompany, Bill Hansen, vocal
soloist who will join Glenn at
Danebod.

Pastor Doris Weber is Pastor at Danebod Lutheran, Tyler, MN. She
is a graduate of Luther Seminary
and has served in Princeton and Albany, MN
Pastor Lyle Snyder is Pastor at the First English Lutheran, Tyler, MN.
He is a graduate of the Lutheran
School of Theology at Chicago.
Rev. Dr. Herbert Chilstrom was
the first ELCA Bishop (1988-1991)
and a former Bishop of the MN
Synod of LCA. A native of
Litchfield, MN is a graduate of Augustana Theological Seminary, Princeton Theological Seminary and NYU.
He served the MN churches in
Pelican Rapids and Elizabeth. Author and professorships are also part of Pastor Chilstrom’s experiences. He spoke to Danebod Folk Meeting participants in 1984.
Storytellers:
Richard Siemers, local story-telling celebrity since 2001 Richard has agreed to entertain us once again.
